I’ve started working with either gold paint, or gold leaf, after having visited more Orthodox Churches than I can count in the Balkans. Their icons or so lovely, and the shimmering effect of gold lends itself to dreaming… of Yeats! Great Irish poet, who wrote:
Once out of nature I shall never take
My bodily form from any natural thing,
But such a form as Grecian goldsmiths make
Of hammered gold and gold enamelling
To keep a drowsy Emperor awake;
Or set upon a golden bough to sing
To lords and ladies of Byzantium
Of what is past, or passing, or to come.
I’m far from that, I hope, but it keeps me painting. These are all 12 x 12 on panel, $175, not including shipping or tax. Each is unique, prints are available for $40.
